Further to the above; herewith a photo I found on the net (poss in The Communicator, Navy News or some such), showing Radio Operator 2nd Class Graham Tadema Beer posing for a photo in the MCO whilst on Torquay F43 1959-60

apparently affectionately known as 'Frothy'

(SD) (C) No. 1 (Q) Course June 1958

Dear David,
I was in the inaugural (SD)(C) Qualifying Course which commenced in July 1957. There was a Course in advance of ours which started as a CCO Course and was commissioned as (SD) List. This was because of an overlap between the former Branch List with thin stripes and the system which created the Special Duties List in accordance with AFO 1/56 (I used have a copy of it but lost it along the way).
Recognise anyone? I am second from right front row, next to our Course Officer, Lt Cdr John Ellis. The two striper on his right is the Deputy Course Officer Lt Don Shutt.
I think that Lt Cdr Fred Rivers (left hand, front row) is still “treading the boards” but if not, then I am the proverbial “Last Man Standing”.
Yours Aye,
Ivor [ROTHWELL - AUSTRALIA]
