Both Argentine gen 1 dreadnoughts plus one of their then new Italian built cruisers in Chile, 1937. The photo was taken from the Chilean BB ADM. LATORRE! :) Quite a rare photo of South American naval strength........ DFO

From wiki:-

Potential operators

Some countries almost purchased Harriers. British Aerospace held talks with Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Switzerland, India, and Japan.
Argentina

When the Argentinian Navy looked for newer fighters in 1968 the US government only offered old A-4A planes instead of the A-4Fs Argentina wanted. Argentina contacted the British government in 1969 and expressed interest in buying from six to twelve Harrier GR.1s. In 1969 the Argentinian Navy received its second carrier, ARA 25 de Mayo, from the Netherlands. On her voyage home, the British company Hawker Siddeley demonstrated a RAF Harrier GR.Mk.1 (XV757) but Argentina opted for the A-4Q Skyhawk instead. There were several problems to supply Argentina with Harrier jets and engines that prevented the deal from being closed, and when the US knew about the Harrier negotiations they quickly offered a better deal to Argentina. Some years later, before the 1982 war, British officials offered Argentina an aircraft carrier and Sea Harrier aircraft.[144][145]

Any background story?

Chairboy
Hawker was trying to sell these to the Argentinian navy back in 1969, that's when this pic was taken. It was a demo.

Ah, okay, thanks. My mind instantly came up with the Falklands and how odd a Sea Harrier would be on an argentinian carrier around 1982.

Guess it's a good thing the Harrier $ale never was consummated much less another carrier! I wonder which "surplus" RN carrier it might have been??? :o

Of course the French did sell them Super Etentards and a few Exocets which wreaked more than enough havoc on the RN Task Force......DFO
