British warship visits Australia - TAMAR

The Royal Navy vessel HMS Tamar visited Darwin this week after the successful completion of her first deployment in the Indo-Asia Pacific as part of Britain’s permanent naval presence in the region.

HMS Tamar is permanently deployed to the Indo-Pacific region alongside her sister ship HMS Spey.

HMS Tamar visited the Northern Territory briefly for crew rotation, before continuing her permanent deployment in the region say the Ministry of Defence in a press release.

HMS SEVERN TAKES UP TRADITIONAL ROLE AS GUARD SHIP AT COWES WEEK REGATTA

Visitors to this year’s Cowes Week will not have failed to notice the Royal Navy’s HMS Severn keeping a watchful eye over proceedings as the official Guard Ship of the regatta – and Island Echo has this week had a special tour on board the offshore patrol vessel.

The presence of a Guard Ship is a tradition dating back to when the Royal Family regularly attended the event, with Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia last mooring up in 1997. After a break of 25 years, the Royal Navy returned to Cowes last year with HMS Ledbury keeping guard and representing the Navy.

Australian Navy's HMAS Wollongong and Roya lNavy's HMS Spey sailed in-company from Darwin this week.
Spey is on a long-term deployment to the Indo-Pacific while Wollongong continues her mission on Op RESOLUTE.

Navy warship visits fourth smallest country on the planet – renewing ties after 97 years

HMS Tamar arrived in Malakal Harbour off the capital Koror as part of a US-led peace/goodwill mission.

First British warship in almost 100 years visits Palau

The Royal Navy say that HMS Tamar, a River class Offshore Patrol Vessel, has become “the first British warship to visit the fourth smallest country on the planet in nearly 100 years” on an international goodwill mission.
According to this news release, not since May 1925 have the people of the Republic of Palau seen the White Ensign, when minesweeper HMS Bluebell called in on the archipelago, which sits some 500 miles east of the Philippines.

HMS Spey trains alongside Australian patrol ships in Darwin

HMS Spey has said goodbye to Australia after making a pitstop in Darwin for a crew swap and to take on supplies and fuel for the next leg of her Pacific patrol.

She also used her time in the Northern Territory to work with the Royal Australian Navy and share training and experiences of being an overseas patrol vessel deployed from the UK for up to five years.

Alongside her sister ship HMS Tamar, Spey is the Royal Navy’s permanent presence in the Indo-Pacific region and lessons learned from her maiden deployment were shared with the crews of HMAS Arafura and HMAS Wollongong.

The Australian patrols ships carry out tasks similar to that of Spey and Arafura’s commanding officer and several Royal Australian Navy officers spent time on the British ship.
