Littoral Combat Ships - Independence Class

Littoral Combat Ships - Independence Class

This thread may be considered as complimentary to the thread titled 'LCS by Austal' in the World Navies United States Navy forum.

Although having plenty supporters; the overall functionality of the ships that comprise this class is still questioned by critics. In this thread I will include a few variations that were easily observed when viewing images of the class online.

Nose Jobs; - some observations:-
LCS 2 USS Independence Defense.gov_News_Photo_090712-N-0000G-004 (3).jpg
LCS 4 USS_Coronado 170603-N-PD309-113 exercise_CARAT wiki (2).JPG
LCS 16 future USS Tulsa ce7a2rvxtyk01.jpg
LCS 14 AR-170529532 - fosters.com (2).jpg
Independence-class-LCS-photo-001 seaforces.org (2).jpg

My reading has led me to believe that it was the Freedom class variant that suffered from ingress of seawater through the hawsepipe, yet as can be seen above, the Independence class ships have had their share of nose work done to the central hawsepipe, bullring/bullnose feature.

Bridge Wings; (some with - those without to be/being retrofitted)

Well, much that preceeded this post on the subject of Bridge Wings required a lots of reading; but if that is not your bag then try this - the following attachment is derived from two images published on't internet.

On the left is a cropped image of LCS-4 USS Coronado - and on the right is a cropped image of LCS-2 USS Independence. The issue is that which is displayed on the right and indicated by the orange arrows - note that the flight deck safety net appears to overlap the port bridge wing, whilst the Coronado LCS-4 image indicates that the safety nets should be behind or obscured by the port bridge wing.

Image tampering???

It certainly looks like the image has been Photoshopped, quite poorly though. I suppose that is one way of modifying ships, at no expense

Yep thought so Jim ... blatant piece of desktop retrofitting without dockyard assistance ... blatantly bad that is

The be$t use of these useless floating t___dz is as submerged reefs, which is what they will become within 10 minutes of combat starting....

They had no clear CONOPS before they were built, the so-called modules really don't work; and the USN is still searching for some mission they can do besides being targets, very expensive targets. :( DFO
