I hugely recommend "Dog Boats At War" as an excellent history of these splendid little warships. As a teenager the family lived in Devon very near Salcombe where we used to sail. A retired RN officer friend of my parents lived in a converted D boat there. Without the engines and huge fuel tanks these boats were cavernous as houseboats, but sadly suffered very badly from rot of every kind, they were not built to last.
