TerraNova

Unread post by TerraNova »

Gentlemen: I am pleased to discover a quality successor to the defunct WNSF. I chose a new nom de plume. In Canadian naval history there was a 1950's destroyer escort named HMCS Terra Nova, DDE 259, which served through Cold War in the Atlantic Fleet. She was named after the Terra Nova River in Newfoundland.

I am a retired Army Reserve officer who had the great privilege to command the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and susequently the Newfoundland Militia District. Otherwise I am a retired lawyer and business consultant.

Last year I did the World War 1 battlefield tour where the then Newfoundland Regiment suffered horrendous losses at Beaument-Hamel in France. It was a very sobering experience. Hence the name TerraNova

Having grown up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the sea and the Navy was always close by. Thus, my interest in naval history.

Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian from a rare sunny day in Plymouth , Devon and a warm welcome to you . As the old combatants from the Old WNSF find us the numbers are growing again and we look forward to all their views and posts . You have a very full personal history to draw from . Hopefully more of our Canadian cousins will emerge again .

Kind regards to you and yours .
