Make your posts about this Class of Aircraft Carriers on this thread.
HMS Queen Elizabeth has her own thread here.
HMS Prince of Wales has her own thread here.
The Queen Elizabeth Class of Aircraft Carriers is the latest class to join the fleet. The class of two ships, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, were both built at Rosyth Dockyard in Scotland. By far the biggest ships to serve with the Royal Navy, each is 280 metres long and have a displacement of around 65,000 tonnes. The building of each ship was carried out by four companies at seven shipyards and the constituent parts taken to Rosyth for assembly. HMS Queen Elizabeth was commissioned into the Royal Navy in December 2017 and HMS Prince of Wales is due to commission in 2020.
The ships will operate F35 Lightning Ii fixed wing aircraft and Merlin and Wildcat helicopters.

This is all gathering momentum now Jim and looks like we will soon see some return on our investment .
The forthcoming sea trials with aircraft should soon highlight any shortcomings I feel , and hopefully speed up her development as a front-line deterrent in the world theatre .

Ivor , She started her sea trials some months ago and these were covered by the BBC in three very good documentaries following her every move . The first thing that struck me was the fact she only requires a crew of 700 [without the Airwing] .
It certainly gave me an insight into the Royal Navy of today as opposed to the Navy I served in . should they repeat the series I would recommend it as essential viewing for anyone who has any interest in the Royal Navy of today .
I met the Damage Control Officer of the new Prince of Wales recently and had a very interesting chat with him . Certainly different from my days in DC HQ on Hermes in the sixties.
Don't think I will contemplate a 1:96 version of her yet awhile , but no doubt some Model Company will at some time.

A couple of interesting views of the, for now, world's LARGEST helo carrier!! Good luck with those F-35Bs, btw. The CORPS declared IOC (Initial Operating Capability) a while back: mainly a "political" statement. Here's hoping they DO become a effective combat weapon!! DFO

That is a great shot of QE in Portsmouth and when expanded shows our oldest ship still in Commission [HMS Victory] and the M33 Monitor [World War 1] and HMS Warrior [1860] plus a grandview of Portsmouth Naval Base and Southsea beyond. Thanks for posting.
