Submarines: Borei Class

Borei Class (project 955),Ballistic Missile Submarine RFS Vladimir Monomakh K-551 pictured fitting out and departing Sevmash Shipyards at Severodvinsk on sea trials in 2013.
The project was developed by the Rubin Design Bureau (chief designer was Sergey Kovalev). The keel was laid down on March 19th 2006 at the Sevmash Shipyard in Severodvinsk.The hull of the Akula Class Submarine K-480 Ak Bars was used in the construction of Vladimir Monomakh.She is armed with 16 of the newest Submarine-launched ballistic missile developed in Russia, the Bulava (NATO designation SS-N-32). Vladimir Monomakh and her sister ships will replace the Delta III and IV classes in the Russian Navy. The submarine was launched on December 30th 2012 and had begun moored tests in January 2013.
She finished her first sea trials on October 8th 2013 when returning from a 25-day trial at sea.On September 9th 2014 a Bulava missile was successfully launched from her
Vladimir Monomakh entered service on December 19th 2014.She arrived at her permanent base in the Pacific Fleet on September 26th 2016...*Note the old Soviet 'Hammer and Sickle' logo still on Sevmash Shipyard's wall.

Russian nuclear submarine fires four ballistic missiles

A Russian ballistic missile submarine successfully test-fired four intercontinental ballistic missiles at the weekend.
The Russian Defense Ministry say that the Vladimir Monomakh launched four Bulava missiles in the Sea of Okhotsk.
The ‘dummy’ warheads hit their targets in the Arkhangelsk region in northwestern Russia over 3,400 miles away, the ministry said in a statement.
