F-35 Engineers Use Thor to Build Stealth into the Lightning II
The F-35’s stealth capabilities are unrivaled in tactical fighter aviation. With low observability (LO) attributes built into the jet from the beginning of the design process – structural shape, internal weapons carriages, embedded sensors, stealth coatings and more – the aircraft can go virtually undetected to enemy radar.
For members of the F-35 team at the Aircraft Final Finishes facility in Fort Worth, Texas, applying the low observable coatings to the F-35 is their specialty – one they take great pride in, as the customer relies on this specific capability to keep their pilots safe in the sky.

Flaws in MoD’s £9bn F-35 Lightning II jets ‘not being fixed’
Critical safety flaws in Britain’s new stealth warplanes are being reclassified rather than fixed, according to an investigation by a US spending watchdog.
Britain is buying 48 F-35 Lightning II fighter bombers from America for £9.1bn, with a pledge to purchase a total of 138. The fast-jet programme has, however, been marred by technical problems as the aircraft undergo testing ready to enter frontline service.
The warplane had 111 “category 1” deficiencies, which “could jeopardise safety, security or another critical requirement”, according to the Government Accountability Office, an agency that works for the US Congress.
An investigation by the spending watchdog Project on Government Oversight (Pogo) has now claimed that some of these deficiencies are being recategorised by defence officials as less severe, despite the flaws not being fixed.
At a meeting on June 4, US officials downgraded 19 category 1 deficiencies to the less serious category 2, including 10 “with no plan in place to correct the known design flaws”, according to Pogo, which obtained the minutes of the meeting.
They included a flaw which means the aircraft does not automatically send an emergency signal to ground-control radar if a pilot ejects.
“[H]ours could pass before anyone knows they have had a problem, let alone that they ejected and crashed,” reported Dan Grazier, a defence analyst and former US marine who wrote Pogo’s report.
This month the first F-35s will begin flight trials from the Royal Navy’s Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier off the US coast.
The Ministry of Defence said: “The jets continue to meet strict safety requirements and are on track to enter service by the end of the year.”
Lockheed Martin, the US manufacturer of the F-35, said: “While the open items are important to resolve, they represent no imminent impact to safety of flight or key performance parameters.”
Evididently this is a typical POGO type report for every screw thats not tightened. Its all about bang for buck and they like those financial screws tight as they can get them. Things move on to get rectified. Reclassiying issues is not uncommon as its a live thing.
Martin Baker seats send auto IFF code on ejection. The B variant has the auto ejection system if engine fails etc. Pilots carry the attached on them for emergencies and it allows for coded transmission to help coordinate recovery when shot down in enemy territory. From a non F35 pilot "The IMM button will broadcast your position across all frequencies for rescue. We are trained specifically to NOT press the button since the enemy will also see these transmissions and it will facilitate your capture. So the ejection chair broadcasting you position across all frequencies is a really bad idea."
The MOD and LM comments at the end of the article sum up the present situation.

Thank you David , that was very interesting to know about and our thanks for the important notice of these "Watch dogs " and more to the point the fact that they get poked with a stick to ensure they are taking notice of these "reclassification" levels and more to the point their their continued scrutiny awaiting clearance .....Well researched :)

UPDATE

The F-35 Patuxent River Integrated Test Force (ITF) is nearing a milestone as they prepare to embark two F-35Bs on board aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.
They will be conducting First of Class Flight Trials (Fixed Wing), or FOCFT (FW).
Nearly 200 ITF personnel—active duty US and British personnel military, DOD civilians as well as contractors from British and American companies—will join the ship’s 1,500-person crew in making history when the two jets land on the British carrier.
The event will be the first time an F-35 has ever landed on a non-American vessel and it helps bring an end to the eight-year hiatus since a British aircraft carrier last operated a fast jet from its deck.

Here's to its successful completion , so far its been a bit like watching paint dry , but perhaps thats my anxiety to see a successful completion David , so lets pray all goes well and not major problems exist , although with all the protracted preparations that have been reported on daily this seems unlikely :?
