The VALLEY FORGE was the first operational carrier I ever remember seeing. IIRC, she was docked in NYC in 1956 one weekend when my dad and I went into the city to see what we could at the docks. My interest in ships/warships was starting and New York harbor in the mid 50s was a GR8 place to go looking! :)

Little did I know that less than a decade later I would also be a MARINE, like the VALLEY FORGE's "main battery" had become: helo bourne MARINES to envelope past the beachs! Nice theory, but........ DFO
