Fujian had fired up her main engines twice before.
Once in May and then again in August or early September last year.
That said, third time's hopefully the charm.
Just kidding but if a trial is imminent, you do need to prep engines, obviously.

Again an upgrade on the PLANS-18 "Fujian" … looks like an engine test!

Chinese Aircraft Carrier Fujian Prepares For First Sea Trial (Updated)

First sea trial for Chinese supercarrier comes after over six years of construction and fitting out work in Jiangnan.
Fujian may enter service with the Chinese Navy by 2026.
Alex Luck 29 Apr 2024

Update: Against initial reporting in this article Fujian currently remains stationary in the Yangtze River Delta off her original berth. The rationale for this remains speculative and the beginning of a proper trial therefore is to be confirmed. This article will be updated with further information as it becomes available.

Fujian today, April 29, vacated her moorings at Jiangnan on Changxing Island in the Yangtze River Delta under her own power, as evidenced from social media imagery. The anticipated first sea trial represents a significant milestone on getting China’s first supercarrier equipped with electromagnetic catapults ready for service. The carrier moved out of berth assisted by several tugboats as covered in moving footage circulated on Chinese social media and on “X”, formerly Twitter.

First Chinese CATOBAR aircraft carrier Fujian - equipped with 3 x Electromagnetic catapults is about to start sea trials.
In any a future conflict its likely the USN's decades of hard-won carrier aviation experience would see them hugely outperform the newbies.

Doe make you wonder if they have been any more successful than the US in making EMALS work.

Navy Lookout
China has stolen vast amounts of military and industrial technology via cyber theft and espionage from the West (partly why their kit all looks the same). In this case it probably depends on how effectively they penetrated General Atomics.

Lazarus
Their EMALS system may be as fault-ridden and inoperative as was the Ford's when she first started working with it in 2017. Why do so many outlets just take PRC claims at face value?

Etc. etc.
