Armoured Cruiser Jules Michelet pictured at Saigon c1923..She was a development of the Léon Gambetta Class and was the sole representative of its type. She served during the First World War being eventually sunk as a target in 1937.

This puts the concept of dazzle camouflage into perspective.

The ship is Free French light cruiser Gloire, c. 1944.

By 1944 optical range-finding for gunnery was pretty much surpassed by radar so dazzle and camouflage was in the process of becoming unnecessary, but it still looks the part.
