Re: Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force
Reports state that the IZUMO and KAGA will each get 10 F-35Bs plus the mods needed for the 2 DDHs to operate them. The IZUMO will get modified first; both will become "carriers" in about 5 years or so if the plans work out. Presumably helos will still operate from these 2 units as well. DFO

IMhO, a darn EXPEN$IVE way to get a handful of planes (10 on each "DDH") to sea.......
I wonder if a ski-jump will be added, as shown in the "fan boy" model??? DFO

Excellent post Dennis, thanks very much for the full spec and details included , and it would be a marked departure from character if it wasn't copied correctly with the Ramp , [even if only to store the rice] for extended operations

Good grief ....it looks a tad unsanitary Dennis , hope their hygiene standards improved a lot , those shelves look very spartan to , still there was a war on , and it proves the scarcity of supplies comments elsewhere eh

Re: Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force
How about the new 27DDG class Aegis tin can? The new MAYA was launched last Spring, the first of a new pair using COCLAG instead of CODAG for propulsion. Difference is?? They are about 250 tons heavier at full load than the previous 2 ATAGOs.
These are evolved from their earlier 2 pairs, which were based on the USN BURKE DDG design.
The JMSDF bridge structures are taller than the BURKES (almost pagodas ); hence the Aegis antennas are mounted higher giving a somewhat better radar horizon. DFO
Specs:
Displacement: 8,200 tons standard
10,250 tons full load
Length: 169.9 m (557 ft 5 in)

Well in the right hands a very capable vessel by the looks of it Dennis , and you can only admire them for being so minded given the pressure the local advisories are evoking , but it, like everyone else at present, accelerated rearmament programme is worrying as protection is admirable provided it is not encouraged towards invasion
I like your posts a lot , which give all the facts ....... not just pretty pics.....to collect . please continue as I know others derive the same pleasure from them but are to dam lazy to thank you for your efforts
