Frigates: BAE Type 26
This design and its consortium was chosen today to be Canada's new frigate; looks like a long tube 5" will be the gun of choice; rather than the 57 mm popgun on today's Canadian frigates! DFO

Re: Frigates: BAE Type 26
The latest edition of the magazine "Australian Warships" carries an extensive article comparing the three national versions of the Type 26, which they dub to be the "Empire Frigate". As a Canadian spending time in Australian with our daughter and family, I take some exception to this nickname. I would prefer it to be called the "Commonwealth Frigate"!

I join you with that sentiment . Empire died from 1948 onwards but the Commonwealth lives on and long may it be so.

The gun will be the 5 inch. It looks like the US version but the Tribal DDH/DDG Class mounted the Oto-Melara version. Time will tell.

The choice of gun is the 5 inch weapon. I don't think the make of gun has been chosen.

Re: Frigates: BAE Type 26
Surprising if true. If the base ship is the Type 26 then I bet Australia will not be spending £1 Billion for each frigate. That might cause some friction in the UK.
