Six boats of the Class were built. These were minelaying submarines and followed successful trials with submarine M3. Five of the Class were war losses and Rorqual was scrapped in 1946.

Father served in GRAMPUS in Far East, 1937/9 and RORQUAL 1939. In RORQUAL Aug/Sept/Oct 1939 did patrols in waters where the boat tracked the `AKAGI' (spelling) and other battle-wagons, it is even thought they penetrated Tokyo Bay, which somewhat `peed-off' the Japanese when they found out later (due to reports having been found at Naval Base at Singapore). Believe those reports to be in Japanese hands now - America would not allow them to be released to the British.
