Krivak IV-class with 32 VLS cells replaces the sunk Moskva cruiser

MOSCOW, ($1=62.13 Russian Rubles) — Russia has elected a new leader of its Black Sea Fleet after the Russian Navy’s flagship missile cruiser Moskva [Moscow] was sunk in mid-April by a Ukrainian missile [Ukraine claims] or by a fire in the weapons ammunition depot [Russia claims so]. The frigate Admiral Makarov, an Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate [Krivak IV-class] is the new leading ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

Rail bombs stop Russian ‘Z’ armored train carrying fuel and weapons

KYIV, ($1=29.57 Ukrainian Hryvnias) — The war in Ukraine brought forgotten tactics from World War II. Russia has decided to use an armored tank to deliver food, fuel, and weapons, while Ukrainian guerrillas place bombs on the rails to detonate them.

The news everyone has been expecting. The only surprise was, that it took so long to come.
Such is the mixed bag of fortune for Russia's only seemingly combat ready stealth fighter, the Sukhoi Su-57 Felon.
There are reports that the Su-57 Felon has been spotted in the skies in the Ukraine theater. Instead of following the Western doctrine and being deployed during the initial stages of the invasion and taking full advantage of it's stealth capabilities to penetrate and soften up the enemy's air defenses, the Russians are finally deploying their stealth fighter AFTER the conflict has gone on for some time and the Ukrainian Air Force has already been worn down considerably. In doing so, they show that they either don't trust the aircraft's stealth capability, or they were simply being cautious. Overly so in the opinion of Western analysts.
The Russians are testing the waters and experimenting with what stealth is capable of offering them as they are new to the stealth fighter game. The Sukhoi Su-57 Felon is their first stealth fighter and their only operational model. There are only a handful in existence, and after discounting the initial prototypes, only a literal handful are actually capable of combat use. Looked at from this perspective, it perhaps shouldn't come as a surprise that they were being cautious and handling their new aircraft with kid gloves.
It's interesting that the Russians have deployed their latest fighter, and their first stealth, in a largely ground oriented conflict where they have been shown to be very reluctant to deploy their latest Armoured Fighting Vehicles most notably the Armata series AFV's.
Perhaps the Russians were more comfortable with deploying their aircraft as these are less likely to fall into enemy hands? Though seeing how they have lost a number of their latest attack helicopters in the conflict already, it's only a matter of time before one gets shot down too. Especially if the conflict carries on for a prolonged period after the initial deployment of these aircraft. The longer they operate over hostile territory, the higher the chances of mishap. This vehicle has two advantages: first its name which suggest great capabilities and would be more reliable with T72 platform.
The name has nothing to do with its capabilities and just give media and ignorants feeding for various analysis or fiction considerations.
If spotted and fired at by the modern AT missiles they will be killed the same way as other combat vehicles available as target .
Historically deploying to combat new/improved weapons in insufficient number always did not influence battlefield in significant (if any) way and if necessary used to give time for reaction.
The "Terminator " probably is used for real action combat testing but what really might be the Russian forces advantage is as always numbers of their troops and combat equipment of all sorts used in combat.
It is interesting when the first one will be destroyed, with what AT weapon and quite possibly malfunctioning of the T72 platform.

I am very sorry for these brave soldiers who defended the Mariopol steel mill.
Their fight was not in vain - for long time Russians has to use their resources to fight against them and some harm to the Russians was also made.

Looking back into history - the Azov unit soldiers in particular - they seems to be in big sh....
The Russians will charge them as "terrorists" not as regular UKR army POWs and as such will sentence them to long lasting prison or their infamous gulags or labor camps.
In 1945-46 the Soviets invited to Moscow ten key of the Polish resistance leaders and representatives of the PL London Gvt to Poland, on their arrival arrested them and sentenced from 8-4 years of prison on fake evidences of opposing and organizing resistance against Soviet forces .
Three of them died in prison .
The other contemporary achievements on dealing with (i.e. dissidents) of Soviets/Russia justice system should be well known.

Baltic - the internal NATO sea (pond).
After joining to NATO by SWE and FIN situation in the Eastern flank would be of great disadvantage for RUS.
Practically (hopefully never) in every conflict between NATO and Russia access to Baltic from their bases would be denied easily.
From Petersburg to open seas of Atlantic every deployment of Russian navy would be tracked and subject of strikes.
Assuming very good FIN land forces would intervene in case the Baltic states would be attacked or under a serious threat from Russia this means bigger Russian forces must be deployed so they would "feel safe" in eastern flank.

Not a big break of confidential information but in the Flightradar24 app I saw couple of times a Swedish military a/c flying (and covering some areas with multiple "loops") along eastern boundaries of Poland.
Certainly this is not holiday tour of the Swedish servicemen but surveillance/data collection missions for NATO.

SWE has (and sold them to POL) reliable RBS15MkIII of both antishipping and land targets capabilities with the range of 200km with 200kg warhead.
Baltic is so small pond that our RBS and Swedish may easily overlap the whole area.

Apparently as far as considering conventional forces RUS operational capabilities in the Baltic theatre will be finished.

Baltic as said above "the pond" deserve this name.
Two Polish sailors using this outstanding 15ft long and fast dinghy called Hornet class defected from Poland to Sweden overnight.
May I add that Hornet class (I was racing and still is in my memory as the best) was designed by the British designer Mr Jack Holt who in WW2 also designed the HM MTBs,MGBs (LM?).
Holt's small Cadet class dinghies (for kids) and Hornets were main classes of racing boats in Poland in period of 60thies to 80thies.

Denmark Sending Ukraine Anti-Ship Harpoon Missiles To Take on Russian Ships in Black Sea

The Danish Armed Forces are sending long-range anti-ship missiles to Ukraine, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin told reporters on Monday. The range of Denmark’s coastal defense Harpoons could put Russian ships at risk in the Northern Black Sea, a naval analyst told USNI News.

“I’m especially grateful to Denmark, which announced today that it will provide a Harpoon launcher and missiles to help Ukraine defend its coast,” Austin said in prepared remarks at the Pentagon following a meeting with an international coalition and Ukraine defense officials.

While Austin did not specify the type of Harpoon, the Danish military’s coastal anti-ship missile batteries field RGM-84L-4 Harpoon Block IIs that are capable of not only hitting ships at sea, but also targets in port and on land with an upgrade from the Boeing Advanced Harpoon Weapon Control System.

“This expands Harpoon’s capability to attack coastal, in harbor and land targets such as shore defense sites, [surace to air missile] sites, exposed aircraft, port/industrial facilities and ships in port,” reads a 1999 press release from Boeing on the sale of the system to the Danish Naval Material Command.

Depending on where Ukrainian forces base the coastal battery, the missiles could extend the range Ukrainian Navy could target the Russian Navy’s Black Sea ships, open-source naval analyst and retired Navy Capt. Chris Carlson told USNI News on Monday.

UK backs Lithuania’s plan to lift Russian blockade of Ukraine grain

Britain has backed in principle a proposal by Lithuania for a naval coalition “of the willing” to lift the Russian Black Sea blockade on Ukrainian grain exports.

The Lithuanian foreign minister, Gabrielius Landsbergis, proposed the plan during talks with the UK foreign secretary, Liz Truss, on Monday in London.

“Time is very very short. We are closing in on a new harvest and there is no other practical way of exporting the grain except through the Black Sea port of Odesa,” he told the Guardian. “There is no way of storing this grain and no other adequate alternative route. It is imperative that we show vulnerable countries we are prepared to take the steps that are needed to feed the world.”

Landsbergis proposed that a naval escort operation – not run by Nato – could protect the grain ships as they headed through the Black Sea and past Russian warships. He suggested that, apart from Britain, countries that were affected by the potential loss of grain such as Egypt could provide the necessary protection.

“What we have seen now is just the beginning. The worst is yet to come in the next five to seven weeks when the first harvest arrives and there is no place to put it, so that means people in northern Africa, the Middle East and south-east Asia will be paying exorbitant prices for wheat, corn and the other commodities they need to put food on their table”. He said Ukraine needed to export 80m tonnes of wheat alone this year and the only option was through Odesa,.

His plan, under gestation for weeks, would require demining parts of the Black Sea to ensure safe passage, as well as the agreement of Turkey, which guards the entrance to the Black Sea.

“This would be a non-military humanitarian mission and is not comparable with a no-fly zone,” he said. “In this endeavour military ships or planes or both would be used to ensure that the grain supplies can leave Odesa safely and reach the Bosphorus without Russian interference. We would need a coalition of the willing – countries with significant naval power to protect the shipping lanes, and countries that are affected by this”.

Nato as an alliance should not take a role, he said.

Comments by Navy Lookout:

Growing realisation Russian blockade of Black Sea having global consequences. Ukraine needs to export 80M tonnes of grain by sea.

Calls for “non-NATO” coalition to escort merchant ships from Odesa fraught with difficulties similar to “no fly zone”.

Russia’s capture of Ukrainian ports and blockade of the Black Sea is arguably its only major strategic success of the war.

Even if Turkey opened Dardanelles to escorting warships, hard to imagine Russia would tolerate Ukraine restarting maritime trade.
