DECISION ON PLYMOUTH'S COLD WAR MUSEUM IN JULY

Plymouth's former naval base commander has begun a 16-week study to determine whether the city can host an ambitious Cold War museum.

Commodore Ian Shipperley will report in July whether the likely multi-million pound project – which would feature veteran hunter-killer submarine HMS Courageous as its flagship exhibit – can both find the funding and, crucially, keep the money coming in if it does.

A fundraising drive last year brought in £40,000 in nine weeks to fund the detailed study which will look at every aspect of the proposed ‘Cold War Centre’ in Plymouth.

The aim of the centre is to champion the role of the Royal Navy, the city of Plymouth and British engineering and technology in helping to stave off and ultimately eradicate the Communist threat between the late 1940s and the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Commandos start 100-day countdown to Armed Forces Day

Abseiling commandos, Royal Marines Buglers and a Merlin flypast heralded the 100-day countdown to the military’s largest public event of 2022.
To set the clock running down to Armed Forces Day, a Royal Marines team slid down the side of the castle keep in Scarborough, to a fanfare from four buglers of the RM Corps of Drums as a Merlin from 814 Naval Air Squadron buzzed around the ancient fortress.
The historic Yorkshire town/seaside resort is the place to be on Saturday June 25 as it hosts the main national Armed Forces Day event – at last.
The resort was selected for the privilege several years ago... but the pandemic got in the way.

RUGBY - R.N. V. ARMY

Royal Navy women set to make history in Twickenham showdown

The Royal Navy women’s rugby team are set to make history on Saturday when they make their long-awaited Twickenham debut at the annual Army v Navy game.

The match is the largest amateur sporting event in the UK, attracting more than 80,000 spectators to the home of English rugby as the final fixtures of the Inter-Service campaign are played out and the winners of the Babcock Trophy decided.

This year the crowds are in for a double-header with the women making their first appearance at Twickenham (4.30pm kick-off), following the men's showdown at 2pm.

Continues at - https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/news-and-l ... m-showdown

#BringYourAGame

This is the first time this fixture has taken place since 2019 and is a celebration of top-level military sport.

Supporters are being asked to #BringYourAGame and be the best supporter they can possibly be, respecting the game, the teams and the community.

Commander Gary Bushell, Chair Army Navy Committee, said: “It’s hugely exciting to finally be able to welcome the teams and the crowds back to Twickenham for what are always fiercely contested fixtures.

“We are delighted that after the false dawn in 2020 we will at last welcome the inaugural women’s Inter Service fixture to Twickenham Stadium; that in itself is truly historic.

“We are, as ever, immensely grateful to the local authorities for their continued support in our hosting this event and we are asking all supporters to ‘Bring Your ‘A’ Game’ and support the fixture with enthusiasm and keep in mind that we are guests and we should act accordingly.”
