RN Aircraft Carriers: Ruler Class 1943
All 24 ships of the Ruler Class were built in the USA as Bogue Class aircraft carriers and supplied under the Lend-lease Agreement. They were built to take part in three types of operations - Strike, Escort or Aircraft Ferry.
Ships in the class were built in two groups, the first group comprised:
HMS Patroller, HMS Puncher(crewed by the Royal Canadian Navy), HMS Reaper, HMS Searcher, HMS Slinger, HMS Smiter, HMS Speaker, HMS Trouncer, HMS Trumpeter.
The second group comprised HMS Arbiter, HMS Ameer, HMS Atheling, HMS Begum, HMS Emperor, HMS Empress, HMS Khedive, HMS Nabob (crewed by the Royal Canadian Navy), HMS Premier, HMS Queen, HMS Rajah, HMS Ranee, HMS Ruler, HMS Shah and HMS Thane.
Two of the class were lost to torpedo attack; HMS Nabob in August 1944 and HMS Thane in January 1945 while in the Clyde estuary.
All were returned to the USA in 1946 and 1947. Some were scrapped and others converted back to Merchant ships.

HMS NABOB
The damaged HMS Nabob D77 proceeding homewards under her own steam, her stern low down in the water. She was hit by a torpedo during an operation in northern waters by a German submarine U-354. Despite her damaged condition, NABOB turned homeward with a mixed Canadian and British crew and reached her base after sailing 1070 miles at a steady ten knots.

Photo was taken in 1946 when she was in use as a troopship. I have added another couple of HMS Patroller.

OTD 22/8/1944 Remember RCN - HMS NABOB torpedoed by U354, in Barents Sea, killing 21 sailors.
Effective damage control by her Canadian ship's company saves the escort aircraft carrier. In a historic display of seamanship she steams to Scapa Flow under her own power.

Re: RN Aircraft Carriers: Ruler Class 1943
Launch day pictured for Bogue Class Escort Carrier USS Sunset at Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Yards, Tacoma on July 15th 1943. She was transferred to the UK under Lend-Lease agreement on November 19th; and commissioned the same day as HMS Thane (D48), a Ruler-Class RN Escort Carrier.
HMS Thane operated in the North Atlantic protecting convoys and ferrying aircraft for use in the European Theater. On January 15th 1945, while ferrying aircraft in the Irish Sea, she was torpedoed by the Type VIIC/41 Submarine U-1172 and severely damaged, losing her starboard aft 5 inch gun and its sponson, disabling propulsion, and losing 10 men. Taken to Gare Loch in the Firth of Clyde, southwest Scotland, she was examined, declared a constructive total loss and decommissioned to reserve. She was returned to United States custody while in the UK on May 12th. Determined to be of no use to the USN, she was slated for disposal in October; and was subsequently scrapped.
