in my uneducated opinion ships of this size, and more of them, represent better value than the two behemoths we have now?

They would have far less operational capability for nearly the same cost.

I was surprised to learn that QE Class only have 29 more crew than the Invincibles, not including the air element.

Portsmouth-based aircraft carrier HMS Invincible played a major role in the Falklands war.
She was launched in May 1977, the seventh ship to carry the name.
She was built as an anti-submarine warfare carrier, but worked alongside HMS Hermes during the south Atlantic conflict as an aircraft carrier.
She was also deployed in the Yugoslav wars and Iraq war. She was decommissioned in 2005 and sold for scrap to a Turkish company in 2011.
