If Enterprise had been human, I would have based my whole life on her teachings! :D THE ship of WWII in the Pacific, with not one close contender. Based on her wartime record, there can be no doubt that she was the most destructive warship in history. While it's next to impossible to account for all the damage she did to the Japanese navy, merchant marine and military shore facilities, it certainly exceeds that of any other ship by a considerable margin. Taking out the two largest carriers in the Imperial Japanese navy in the space of five minutes is a good start on her tonnage record, that's for sure. I've seen posts on various naval ship forums where advocates for "their carrier" claim far more downed aircraft than Enterprise managed, but I always point out that those big fat "tally boards" on aircraft carriers during wartime are "claimed kills" not actual, and cannot form a basis for the type of claims made by some. And aside from what Enterprise's air groups might have accomplished, there can be no doubt that Enterprise's gunnery department had more zero deflection shots against enemy aircraft than any other carrier in the fleet!

How appropriate, given dates of Battle of Midway! The "Big E" certainly was one (literally) busy carrier in 1942..... :o

Definitely a warship, like the WARSPITE, that deserved preservation for future generations.......assuming those generations could get their noses out of their I-phones. DFO
