A news report from Kang Seung-woo of Korea Times says HMS Queen Elizabeth and her Carrier Strike Group are likely to reach South Korea in August.

According to the report:
“In April, the Ministry of National Defense here announced the British aircraft carrier’s visit to IKorea along with the U.K. F-35Bs as part of the Royal Navy’s efforts to expand its presence in the Indo-Pacific region, but the U.S. participation was not made public.

Meanwhile, the arrival of the carrier with its F-35Bs comes at a time when Korea is working on building its own 30,000-ton light aircraft carrier for deployment by 2033, which has raised calls for additional purchases of the stealth jets.

Also, this year’s port call will mark the third visit to Korea by British aircraft carriers. The U.K. previously sent light aircraft carriers to Busan in 1992 and 1997.”

The naval task force will make a port call in Busan before proceeding to Japan.

Meeting of the mighty. HMS Queen Elizabeth and her submarine consort

For the first time, an Astute-class submarine has been pictured with HMS Queen Elizabeth at sea. This video and photo essay shows the submarine surfaced for a rare interaction with the carrier while operating in the Mediterranean.

As is the normal MoD stance on submarine operations, it will not name the boat assigned to the CSG21 deployment but what can be said with certainty is that HMS Artful sailed from Gibraltar on 11th June and this PHOTEX took place on 14th.

Royal Marines stay sharp on commando training missions during Carrier Strike Group deployment

Royal Marines have been perfecting specialist boarding skills and practised saving downed aircrew as they operate at the heart of the UK Carrier Strike Group.
Submarines, frigates, destroyers and aircraft are the more prominent members of HMS Queen Elizabeth’s list of protectors – the ring of steel around the aircraft carrier, capable of preventing attacks above, below and on the waves with an array of cutting-edge weapons and equipment.

But often unsighted – by choice mainly – are the small teams of Royal Marines of 42 Commando who are dotted around the UK Carrier Strike Group’s ships, providing the task force with the ability to intercept drugs smugglers, pirates and terrorists (known as Maritime Interdiction Operations) on their long mission to the Indo-Pacific and back.

Not only that, but the commandos are trained in recovering aviators isolated behind enemy lines (known as Joint Personnel Recovery), with the principle focus being on bringing F-35B pilots who have ejected from their aircraft back to safety.
